My story: (My journey toward a: realistic, healthy, and self-sufficient lifestyle—and how I maintain lasting health for myself and my family):

I am a wife, a mother, a registered nurse, and businesswoman.

As a young person, I pondered the question: “how does one stay healthy and prevent illness” of which there was very little(illness) in my family or my community. 

In nursing school, I was deeply interested in disease prevention and health promotion, and I have a heart for truth and helping people be their best.

 I began my career as a hospital nurse and have spent my entire adult life learning and practicing real nourishment and wellness. Along the way, I healed myself from chronic health issues by returning to the foundational principles of health.

Growing up in an immigrant family system, we learned that health was built at home-meals cooked from scratch, food prepared in advance with a systematic preparation of seasonal meals, prayers, fasting and food prep for travel and work. Wisdom and cultivated habits once ingrained in life are coming back today.

 My father would buy from the local Farmer’s market, and my mother would go to the import store to get ethnic items.

Both sides of my family—and my husband’s—knew how to grow and preserve their own food. Most of that knowledge was not passed on to our generation until now.

As families gradually became reliant on “cheap” /subsidized store-bought canned foods and on mega grocery stores, processed foods, chronic health issues ensued.

 

My Professional Journey

As a critical care nurse, I witnessed how powerful medicine can be in acute care settings. I was just enamored by what modern medicine could accomplish in emergencies and complex situations especially patients recovering from heart surgery.

This experience eventually led me into a career in medical sales—a world where I learned so much.

What I learned is, the human body craves proper, real nourishment to sustain its energy.

 I witnessed sustained health by getting to the root cause and changing how I fueled my body.  I learned how to treat and care for my family relying on past wisdom- utilizing standard care when necessary.

 

A Return to Real Health-

Over the past several decades, I continue to realize and refine my initial question of health promotion and disease prevention and incorporate it as a way of life.

My husband and I have cultivated a chemically free garden and integrated it into our busy, active lifestyle.

Through Just Home Grown I teach practical achievable skills to help you:

  • Grow and preserve your own nourishing food

  • Prepare simple, healthy meals from what you’ve stored

  • Save freezer space with efficient canning

  • Save seeds and barter with others

  • Source locally when you cannot grow your own, and reduce reliance on big-box stores

  • Maintain vibrant health when traveling and returning back home feeling restored

  • Prepare your household for times of food insecurity.

Once you experience real vitality, you no longer want to feel unwell or rely on systems that don’t serve you.
